Student Elements

Optimum student learning

Students obtain and retain STEM principles, concepts, technical skills, and social competences through the integration of strategies, methods, and tasks that maximize highly engaging participation and performance. Measurable gains in academics and social skills prepare them to have “real hope for their future”. To achieve this outcome, participants apply and integrate information communication technologies to merge STEM content and practices with age-specific workplace experiences. The GL2 Partnership Approach includes after school and summer programs supported by inspirational representatives and mentors of local/regional companies and organizations. It is essential to eliminate barriers that contribute to students falling behind. After School and Summer Programs provide unique opportunities to supplement the STEM principles and content from their school classroom curriculum (students foster mastery of STEM). Participants recognize that their local community is committed to their individual development and future success in higher grades, college or a career of demand within the region or nationally.

Sixty percent of students in the U.S. read at the basic or below basic level and are not considered proficient readers.  Whatever current programs are in place are NOT working.  Such deficits in reading, the most critical learning skill of all, are addressed through the research-based Foundations Learning System to move non-readers to proficiency in 28 weeks through a web-based system requiring only twenty-minutes per day. Students need a future orientation based on exposure to all potential careers and college opportunities in the world in which they will live and work.  GL2 utilizes Journeys Map for students to explore their learning paths and vast digital content mapped to their goals.  Learning paths are defined from vast databases, organized by patented technology into maps aligned with state standards.  Students record learning experiences and map them to career choices.  Teachers, students, and parents can see the skills and knowledge needed within 17 career clusters, 1800 career pathways.  Content and activities of industry, business, colleges, and skill craft training entities will be included in Journeys Maps for students to comprehend.

Program Elements Overview

Students

GL2 recognizes that many elementary and middle school teachers will benefit from additional professional development opportunities and by exposure to activities that emphasize STEM concepts, technical skills and applications including STEM-based operations by entities in their local community. Strengthening STEM Programs via Community Partnerships is an essential strategy to ensure optimum STEM learning. Local industry, business, university, civic and skill craft training organizations possess unique opportunities for students to experience “real STEM work.” Local and Regional entities are most often willing to offer access to their personnel, operations, and research activities to help foster increased STEM interest beyond traditional classroom curriculum content.
